Jack Boyd releases his debut single 'Bad Parts'

Rising star Jack Boyd's debut single “Bad Parts” dropped last week and has already found its way onto playlists like Fresh Finds & Fresh Finds Indie. We sat down with the artist to ask him some questions about the song and what's up next for him.

How did you get your start in music?

Both of my parents are musicians so I was always around it. I started playing drums when I was 3 and eventually wanted to play guitar and piano because my dad played guitar and my mom played piano.

What does music mean to you?

It’s everything to me, I want my music to represent me as a person more than my physical self.

Tell us the story behind your song ‘Bad Parts’?

Bad Parts is about experiencing hyper empathy – which for me, is basically feeling too much to the point of needing to shut off completely – you don’t feel anything, you don’t remember anything. But in that moment I never actually want to shut off, I’d rather feel it all, even the bad parts. That’s where the line comes from – if I’m gonna shut down & forget the bad parts, then I need someone to remember them for me.

What artists influence your sound?

As of right now…

Elliot Smith

The Smashing Pumpkins

Radiohead

The Goo Goo Dolls

What’s your favorite thing to do on a Saturday?

Either relaxing with my partner and my dog or skateboarding!

What’s up next for you?

I’m releasing an EP soon which I’m super excited about and then just continuing to compete with myself to make the coolest music ever heard! Ever!
